A man has been charged at Kakamega Law Courts with stealing a bed.

Alvine Shalwa,32, is accused of allegedly stealing a bed belonging to Linda Marongo in Muraka on March 27.

The accused denied the charges and was released on Sh40,000 bond and cash bail of Sh10,000.

“Plea of not guilty is entered and the accused is granted bond. The matter will be mentioned on April 29 for the court to set a hearing date and to confirm if the accused has been supplied with witness statements," said Chief Magistrate Julius Ngarngar.

The prosecution told the court that the complaint had bought the bed at Sh14,500 but it did not fit in her house.

“Since the bed was too big for the house, she (the complaint) asked her landlady who had a store if she could keep it for her.  The landlady agreed and kept the bed in the store,” said Lazarus Sirtuy, prosecutor.

Sirtuy said that while the complainant was on her way to Eldoret for official duty she received a call from her landlady inquiring if she had taken away the bed.

“Her landlady informed her that the bed was missing and inquired if she had taken it,” he said.

The prosecutor told court that the complaint inquired from the bodaboda riders about the matter and they confided that they had allegedly seen the accused with the bed.

“The complaint made reports to the police and the accused was arrested and charged,” he said.

Court documents stated that on March 27, 2024, at Muraka in Kakamega county, Alvine Shalwa stole one bed of the size 4×6, worth Sh14,500 property of Linda Marongo.
