Nairobi motorists have been urged to keep off Raila Odinga (formerly Mbagathi Road) and Langata roads in Nairobi, and Links Road in Mombasa.
This is after a heavy downpour caused flooding after heavy downpour on Saturday night.
In a tweet on Sunday, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced that a technical team was working to mitigate the effects.
“We wish to warn motorists plying Raila Odinga Road, Langata Road near Wilson Airport and Links Road- Nyali in Mombasa County of serious flooding following the unprecedented heavy rains,” KURA says.
“Motorists are advised to drive with caution as they approach these sections. Alternatively, motorists should avoid these roads until floods subside. Our technical team are on the ground to ascertain how best we can mitigate the effects of this flooding on our roads,”.
Meanwhile, heavy flooding has been reported in parts of Nairobi and its environs, making roads impassable and sweeping property.
In Kitengela, cars were swept by the floods, which were caused by poor drainage systems in the rapidly growing cosmopolitan town.
In Kilimani, residents have been evacuated from Elite Court on Ole Dume Road.
