The 18-leg Dasani Golf Gala enters its final stages Saturday at the Nyanza qualification round.
Members of Nyanza Club, Kericho, Kakamega and Mumias Clubs will be battling for two qualification slots to the Gala’s Grand Finale to be held next month at the Muthaiga Golf Club. By yesterday, 120 golfers from the region had registered.
Coca-Cola Country Manager Kenya, Peter Njonjo, said the Gala has now visited 10 different golf clubs and hosted over 1, 600 golfers.
"The Gala calendar has been extremely busy. We have visited received overwhelming support from golfers everywhere we have gone, " Njonjo said.
"We are going out of Nairobi this month, starting in Nyanza, then Nyeri followed by Thika and Limuru towards the end of the month," he said.
As a special addition to the Gala, sponsors introduced golf clinics for guests and staff new to the game.
Charity Golf
The seriousness with which the Gala is regarded at the Coca-Cola offices was recently demonstrated at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club where golfers were joined by Business Unit President for Coca-Cola East and Central Africa Business Unit, Nathan Kalumbu and Kelvin Balogun, the General Manager East Africa and Mozambique.
The winning team from the Dasani Golf Gala will represent Kenya’s golfing fraternity at the Gary Player Invitational, a celebrity Pro-Am event, hosted by the legendary Gary Player and that will be played at the Fancourt Golf Resort in George, South Africa. The Dasani Golf Gala Finale will be held at the Muthaiga Golf Club on the 22nd of October 2010.
Meanwhile, Fly540 has joined the sponsors for the Starehe Girls Golf tournament taking place today at Windsor Golf and Country Club.
Fly540 has donated two air tickets to Zanzibar and two to Mombasa. These will be auctioned during the Windsor Charity Golf Tournament and the money raised will go towards the fund rising exercise.
Other companies supporting this competition are Safaricom, Barclays Bank, KCB Foundation, Chandaria Foundation, the Standard Media Group, Nation Media Group, J & J Company and Nakumatt.
Among the players listed for this tournament are Les Baillie of Safaricom, DK Kariuki, the Chairman of the Kenya Golf Union and Kepha Bosire of KCB.
