Lilian Ng'ang'a opens up on dating history: "I have always had a boyfriend"

She revealed that she has always been in a relationship during her dating phase. She went on to share details about a past boyfriend and how her relationships have evolved over time. Lilian, who has been open about her upbringing and the qualities she values in relationships, explained how a past relationship turned unhealthy, leading to its end. "I have always had a boyfriend; I have never been in a phase where I was single. I loved this boy, but our relationship was full of drama. It became unhealthy, and we eventually broke up. He became insincere when I became an air hostess, so I had to end the relationship. I tried my best, but now we laugh about it. I had known him since high school," she said. When asked whether financial struggles played a role in the breakup, she clarified that this was not the case. She revealed that her ex-boyfriend was insecure and that their relationship was extremely dramatic. "He had money and provided for us, so it wasn't about finances. He was just insecure. I was so busy that I never really had time to feel the heartbreak. Not long after that, I got another boyfriend," Lilian said. The author dated a white man before getting into a high-profile relationship with former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua. Their seven-year relationship came to an end in June 2021, with both Lilian and Mutua announcing their breakup on their social media accounts. Following this, Lilian resigned as First Lady of Machakos. She acknowledged that people may hold different opinions and stereotypes about her, but she chooses to be open about her journey. She is currently married to veteran artiste Juliani, and together they have a son named Ntheri. She also revealed that she once ventured into modelling. "I used to be very quiet, but now I have a son and a legacy to protect, so I have to speak my truth. People don't really know who I am, but I have been placed in a certain category. I even did modelling in the past," she said. In February 2025, Lilian Ng'ang'a shared a painful chapter of her life, revealing that she had been in a toxic and violent relationship. Speaking candidly on TikTok, she recounted the harrowing experience. "I remembered a time in my life when I had a boyfriend who was violent. We were in Westlands, and he concluded that someone was looking at me, and I was looking at them. So, he hit me," she revealed. However, she encouraged women experiencing gender-based violence, reassuring them that with time, they would look back and realise they deserved better. "Right now, I am laughing just thinking about that time because it's a distant memory that has no emotional attachment," she said.
