Kenya Navy Golfer Major Joel Mochanga overcame all odds to take command with double victories in the September 2024 Mug Golf Tournament played at the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 8 Mochanga braved the prevailing unfriendly strong winds from the nearby Indian Ocean waters to emerge the day’s gross winner after carding a seven over par 78 gross and also scooped the A division category prize with 70 nett scores.

“The day has been wonderful despite the heavy winds but my swing shots were all landing on the spot.Iam grateful for the win and will continue to train more in order to bring in more trophies,” said Mochanga.

Handicap 0 George Githinji on 72 nett and handicap 7 John Orioro with 75 nett count back score were the runners up and second placed respectively.

Justine Ongere playing off handicap 14 was the Division B winner on a count back score of 71 nett after tying on the same score with second placed handicap 15 Mburu Mwangi while handicap 14 Willy Sang settled for the third slot on a count back score of 72nett.

The C Division was won by handicap 25 Brig.Lawrence Gituma who recorded a count back score of 67 nett, tying on the same score with handicap 19 Ken Mwangi who was the runners up and handicap 22 left-handed golfer Elijah Ibua was third with 68 nett.

Handicap 35 Fidelis Odumo scooped the C Division on 75 nett while handicap 22 Bernard Kotonya carded 66 nett to claim the Guest Prize.

The Ladies Medal in Division A was won by handicap 19 Wanjiku kinyeru on 72 nett and Sandra Githere playing off handicap 16 brought 74 nett to sit second.

Handicap 35 Jackline Mutahi carded a count back score of 75 nett to win the B Division after tying on the same score with second placed handicap 24 Everline Kerubo and handicap 38 Constance Achila was the C Division winner on a score of 72 nett.

Elsewhere at the Golf Park Course in Nairobi County on the same day, Home Club’s Margaret Njoki playing off handicap 6 carded 72 gross to emerge the overall winner of the 2024 Golf Park Ladies Open Tournament.

Club mate handicap 16 Doris Mideva recorded 79 gross to emerge the Division A gross winner while handicap 18 club mate Bianca Wanjiru was the first runner up on 82 gross and handicap 7 Ashley Awuor of Royal Nairobi emerged second runners up on the same score.

Nakuru’s handicap 23 Gladys Maina returned 87 gross to claim the Division B gross prize as handicap 24 Home Club’s Mercy Wafula on 93 gross and Club Mate’s handicap 23 Mercy Onywoki with 94 gross were the runners up and third placed respectively.

The Division A Nett winner was handicap 18 Rosemary Obara with a score of 66 nett and handicap 17 Wairimu Gakuo was the runner up on a count back score of 71 nett after tying on the same score with third placed handicap 17 Winnie Mumbua.

Alice Mwangi playing off handicap 29 took command of the B Division but survived to win on 66 a count back score of 66 nett tying on the same score with handicap 33 Eve Mwangi who was the second runners up.

And at the Machakos Country Club Course in Machakos County also on the same day, handicap 24 Jones Nzai carded 40 points to beat a team of 185 golfers in the Isuzu golf tournament beating handicap 18 Sawarn Singh to the runners up slot by a single point difference.

Handicap 25 Joseph Kombo on account back score of 36 was third after tying with fourth placed handicap 16 B.M.Mugata.

Lisa Apukey playing off handicap 28 was the Lady on 34points while handicap 14 Nancy Kariuki returned 31 points to claim the runners up prize.

Handicap 37 Christabelle Ochiel won the handicap 37 plus prize with 35 points and handicap 40 Ezra Maingi on 42 points was the handicap 29 plus winner.

The Guest prize on 40 points was won by handicap 27 Ayub Kinyanjui displacing handicap 6 Edwin Ondiek to the runners up slot on a four points difference.
