CHAN 2024: Harambee Stars travel to Juba for first-leg clash against South Sudan

The Harambee Stars departed Kenya today bound for South Sudan, where they are set to face the Bright Stars in the first leg of their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) CECAFA qualifier.

The crucial match will take place on Sunday, October 27, at Juba International Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3 PM EAT.

In a last-minute change, Kenya’s head coach was forced to adjust his squad as midfielder Kenneth Muguna was ruled out due to fitness concerns.

Clifford Otieno of Nairobi City Stars has been called up as Muguna's replacement, and he joins a 24-man squad as the Harambee Stars aim to secure a strong position ahead of the second leg.

With a squad featuring a mix of seasoned defenders and rising talents, the Harambee Stars appear focused on balancing solid defense with strategic attacking options.

Goalkeepers Byrne Odhiambo (Bandari), Farouk Shikalo (KCB), and Ibrahim Wanzala (Kakamega Homeboyz) will look to anchor the team from the back, while defenders like Musa Mohammed and Sylvester Owino are expected to bring experience and stability to the backline.

Notable inclusions include Alphonce Omija, Geoffrey Ochieng, and Bernard Ondiek, adding depth to the defensive ranks.

The midfield unit, now including Clifford Otieno, consists of Andres Odhiambo (Kariobangi Sharks), Vincent Owino (Nairobi City Stars), and Ulinzi Stars' duo Issa Lumumba and Boniface Muchiri.

These players will be instrumental in supporting both defense and attack, with Austine Odhiambo and Matthias Isogol also positioned to drive the team's offensive efforts.

Meanwhile, the forward line, led by Victor Omune of AFC Leopards, is bolstered by players such as Sydney Lokale, Mathew Tegisi, and Patrick Otieno.

The return leg is set for November 3 at Mandela National Stadium in Uganda, where Kenya will aim to solidify their qualification for CHAN 2024.
