Kenyan rapper Volvexzshawa is closing out 2024 on a high note, reflecting on a year that saw him release his debut album, Big Boys Do Cry.

The album, a deeply personal project, explores themes of grief and resilience, particularly from the perspective of the Gen Z generation. It’s a heartfelt body of work inspired by his own journey of coping with the loss of his father during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The album is a reflection of how our generation handles life’s challenges, especially grief,” Volvexzshawa shares. In the opening track, Intro, he pays homage to his late father with poignant lyrics: ‘The whole world love language is hat-treat, the whole world will wait till you’re dead to send you bouquet of flowers.’

He further adds, “Me and my Papa were like twins; I still got the toys we used to play with. Mama’s still trying to be the boss of the house, and my sister just got a new job—that’s what’s up.”

These raw, emotional reflections struck a chord with listeners, earning the album recognition on platforms like Ngoma Charts, where one of its tracks was featured as Song of the Week.

As the year winds down, he expresses gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support. “I want to thank my fans for keeping it real with me.

This year has been a rollercoaster, but your love and loyalty mean everything,” he says. He also gave a special shout-out to his top promoter, Prestablogs, with whom he has enjoyed a fruitful collaboration throughout 2024.

Looking ahead to 2025, he has ambitious plans. He’s gearing up to release new projects in January, promising fans that the wait will be worth it.

“I’ve got so much in store for next year. It’s going to be bigger and better,” he teases. He also hints at continued collaborations with Prestablogs and other industry players, aiming to push Kenyan hip-hop to greater heights.

As fans eagerly await what’s next, Volvexzshawa leaves them with a message of goodwill: “As we cross into the new year, let’s keep striving, loving, and staying true to ourselves. 2025 is going to be amazing, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.”

Volvexzshawa’s debut album has set the tone for a promising career, and his dedication to his craft ensures that the coming year will be one to watch for this rising star.
