Glen Washington: This is why I stopped smoking weed

Early last week, legendary Jamaican artist Glenroy Washington, popularly known in reggae circles as Glen Washington, arrived in Kenya.

The 67-year-old "Rockers Not Crackers" singer has given several interviews since his arrival, during which he shared some interesting facts about his life.

He opened up about overcoming challenges with marijuana and achieving sobriety.

"I used the substance a long time ago, but I stopped because I realized it was unnecessary. It was a matter of mind over matter, and one day I decided I didn’t need this anymore. At some point, I couldn’t get on stage without a spliff," he said.

Adding: “When it was illegal I loved to smoke it but once it was legalised I hated it.”

He also shared how many people doubted he could succeed without using a "hit," but he confirmed that he has been clean and sober for several years now.

In another interview, Glen talked about having five children with three different mothers.

Glen Washington is in Kenya for the Africa Bound Reggae Fest 2024, which will take place on October 19th at the KICC.

On Sunday, October 20th, he will perform at the PERAK Pamoja Festival at Nakuru Athletics Club Grounds in Nakuru City.

The festival is sponsored and organized by the Pubs, Entertainment, and Restaurant Association of Kenya (PERAK).

PERAK National Chairman, Michael Muthami, said, "This time around, we want to host shows for lovers of reggae music outside Kenya's capital city, and Nakuru City is our venue of choice."

Muthami added that they aim to offer reggae fans the best in the entertainment industry and expressed gratitude to Glen Washington for accepting their invitation to tour Kenya.

Speaking to The Standard, Muthami said they expect the show to be one of a kind, adding that logistics and preparations for the event are at an advanced stage.
