Azziad: I am not part of Kenya's delegation to Paris Olympics

Azziad has said she is not part of Kenya's delegation to Paris for the Olympics.

Kenyan content creator Azziad Nasenya has distanced herself from claims that she is part of the country’s delegation to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Through a statement, Azziad said her involvement with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports ended after the disbandment of the Creatives Technical Committee (Talanta Hela).

“I am not part of the Kenya delegation to the Paris Olympics 2024. It is unfortunate that someone would come up with false allegations on such a matter.

“My involvement with the  Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports was centred around the Creatives Technical Committee of the Talanta Hela Council headed by Daniel Ndambuki…I was selected and mandated to represent the younger population in the Creatives Technical Committee. However, that committee was disbanded in June 2023. I’ve not involved myself since,” she wrote.

Azziad also cleared the air regarding her Dubai trip which caused a stir on social media. At the time, there were claims that it was funded by the government but she clarified that it was sponsored by a client she was working for.

The TikTok star said the receipts were available for verification and the initial allegations were baseless.

“My travel to Dubai and other places have been financed by myself, clients, family and never, as numerously claimed, by the government of Kenya.

“There were allegations that I travelled to Dubai using money meant for renovating a stadium. At the time, I was in Dubai recording content for the VisitDubai campaign, a trip that was fully funded by the client,” she wrote.

She also took time to applaud the youth who took to the streets to hold the government to account during the anti-Finance Bill protests and condoled those who lost their lives.

Azziad added that she would continue to use her platform to support positive change in the country.
