Stars reveal their dream schools and careers

[Edward Kiplimo,Standard] Candidates who posted top marks in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination have now opened up on their dream schools and careers. Valerie Chemutai, who scored 421 marks edging out thousands of candidates in the Rift Valley region, now eyes a slot at the prestigious Alliance Girls High School. The former St Mary's Mixed Primary School pupil says she is on the path of pursuing a degree in Medicine. Speaking to The Saturday Standard in Bomet County, Chemutai said that it took hard work, perseverance and discipline to post the result. The soft-spoken 13-year-old says it also took a lot of effort from her parents who always reminded her to revise while on holiday. Chemutai was followed in second place by Ivy Chelang'at who scored 417 while Brenda Chepchirchir scooped 416 to book the third place at the school. Other schools that surprised academic giants included Tenwek Day Primary School which produced the fourth-best candidate in Bomet. Naomy Chepkoech, who garnered 411 marks, said she is eyeing a slot in one of the national schools but was not clear about a specific school. "I am not only happy for the results but also know I will secure a good school," she added. At Tenwek Boarding Primary School, Kerubo Angeline and Rono Kimutai Meshark, both tied on 412 marks. Kerubo Angeline from Tenwek Boarding Primary School in Bomet County scored 412 marks. In Kericho, Rayna Chepngetich, a candidate at Chemitan Academy in Bureti constituency, emerged as the top performer in Kericho County after scoring an impressive 424 marks. The firstborn in a family of two, Chepngetich, expressed her pleasant surprise at surpassing her initial target, attributing her success to dedicated extra studies during school holidays. She hopes to secure admission to Alliance Girls High School and become a neurosurgeon in future. At Kalya Academy in Kericho County, Ezra Kiprotich topped the class of 2023 with 412 marks. Out of a total of 67 candidates, 14 registered scores of 400 marks and above. Abigel Chebet stood out with a remarkable score of 403 marks. Expressing her happiness, Chebet looks forward to securing admission to Alliance Girls High School and harbours dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon. At St Christopher Academy in Laikipia County, Myles Muringi, who scored 421 marks, wishes to join Mang'u High. Precious Mweru Maina of Kagaki School got 415 marks in the KCPE 2023. Discipline According to Muringi, the good results were due to hard work, support from parents and teachers and discipline. "This marks one of the greatest days in my life and I hope that one day I will be an aeronautical engineer," he said. Another star candidate Joy Wambui who garnered 396 marks, looks forward to joining Nakuru Girls which was her dream school. Carol Academy's Parsitan Joy, who scored 423 marks, said she would like to join Kenya High and later pursue a course in medicine. She said she was not expecting 423 marks as in their last exam at school she scored 414 marks. Emmanuel Shadrack, who scored 419 marks, said he obeyed the teachers and followed instructions given by them. He hopes to join Kapsabet Boys and pursue a course in astrophysics at the university. He said he was targeting 442 marks and was happy with the 419 marks that he got. Owino Joseph, who scored 422 marks, also said his dream school is Kapsabet Boys. He attributed his success to hard work, dedication and trust in God. He said he would wish to become a cardiologist in future. Naomi Biage of Roots Academy scored 417 marks saying their hard work and waking up early in the morning paid off. "I would wake up early in the morning, go to class before lessons started and revise. Teamwork, intense revision and consultation attributed to our success," said Biage. Biage said she wishes to join Alliance Girls and aspires to be a neurosurgeon. Neema Wanjiru, who scored 414 marks, said managed to excel despite the numerous challenges she encountered. "I realised that working smart is all I needed. I would revise each and every question I failed in the mock exams we did. Research was part of me and I always made sure I consulted," she said. Wanjiru hopes to join Kenya High School and wants to be an architect in future. At Kagaki School, Precious Maina, who scored 415 marks, said she believed in her teachers and God. Maina said she expected to attain 425 marks but was content with the result. She hopes to join Alliance Girls High School and her dream career is aeronautical engineering. Joy Jemutai, who scored 404 marks, said she would like to join Moi Girls Eldoret and pursue a medicine course at the university.
