Kenyan takes lead role in EAC political federation negotiations

A Kenyan has been appointed to head negotiations towards an East African Community Political Federation. Dr Julius Tangus Rotich became the new Deputy Secretary General in charge of Political Federation following a reshuffle of the EAC Deputy Secretary Generals carried out following an order by the EAC Heads of State Summit.

Rotich filled a position left vacant by the exit of Beatrice Kiraso, whose second and final three-year term ended on April 28. He will head the controversial political federation discussions that are finally expected to crown 11-year-old revival of the regional block, following the signing of both the Customs Union and the Common Market.
