HOMABAY, KENYA: The County Government of Homa Bay intends to improve fish production in the current financial year.
The county has set aside Sh44.9m for developing the fishing sub sector.
It will spend 19.9m on improving fish pond farming while Sh13m will be spent on completing a fish auction center.
Finance CEC David Okeyo said most of the county residents' livelihood depends on fish hence they have to give fishing sector more priorities.
"The allocation will enhance production of fish in the county through Lake Victoria and the fish ponds. We want to encourage the locals to produce their own fish too," said Okeyo.
On Tuesday, the CEC presented a proposed budget of Sh6.697 billion for the current financial year budget.
