How Kenyan counties share roads billions in 2019/20 budget

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Kenya Roads Board has disbursed over Sh65 billion for various road projects across the country.
The fund is to be shared between Kenya’s 47 counties, various authorities, Kenya Wildlife Service, and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
As per the county allocation of revenue act, the board disbursed Sh8.984 billion to 47 county governments for the financial year 2019/20, a conditional grant for maintenance of county roads.

The money comes at a time when most roads in the county need repair following damage from heavy rains experienced early this year.

Allocation per county

The board released Sh24.6 billion to the Kenya National Highways Authority for road class S,A,B, C (major trunk roads) and Sh13 billion to Kenya Rural Roads Authority for the national rural roads.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority got over Sh6 billion, Kenya Wildlife Service over Sh598 million for the national park roads while the ministry of roads over Sh5 billion for emergencies and roads under road sector investment programme.
