Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has successfully drilled the first well pad at Paka hills in Baringo County.
GDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Johnson Ole Nchoe in a brief said for the last three days the well has been releasing steam terming it historical and success not only to the people of Baringo but for the entire country.
According to GDC MD, the Silale block, which has a huge potential of geothermal, energy will be the biggest venture made and will be historic
“The country he said now has a new geothermal field other than what is known traditionally in Olkaria and Menengai. Once discovered geothermal energy will drive the Big 4 Agenda, is renewable and a cheaper source of energy,” said Nchoe.
Apart from prospecting for green energy, the community has also benefitted as GDC has provided water for livestock and to the people.
The Paka hills GDC prospect is among the 30 wells which is projected to generate 3000 Megawatts once all wells pads are completed.
The geothermal company which started its prospects in Paka, Korossi and Silali, Tiaty Sub-county seven years ago registered the presence of geothermal in Paka well following a steam that has been successfully generated.
