New police boss makes impromptu visits to stations

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat has been making surprise visits to police stations to assess level of cleanliness and welfare of officers.
“The visits are a deliberate effort to enable me understand their working conditions and challenges while getting feedback through engaging directly with officers and members of the public seeking police service,” he told The Standard.
On Friday, the DIG in charge of Kenya Police Service made impromptu tours at Nakuru Central, Cheptulu, Mbale and Kondele police stations before visiting Vihiga County headquarters and Nyanza Regional headquarters.
He took over last month from Douglas Kanja who has was on Thursday interviewed for the position of Inspector General following the resignation of Japhet Koome.
