Stephene Arita and Winfridah Moseti are winners of the third edition of Nyamira  10km  Great Run that ended at Esanige Stadium in Magwagwa, Nyamira North.

Arita won the Nyamira Great Run third series after clocking 28.55.05 beating the winner of the first two editions Enock Onchari who crossed the line in a time of 29.19.54.

Onchari said his defeat was anticipated because he had not recovered well after taking part in the Paris Marathon two weeks ago.

"I have not recovered well because it was just recently I participated in the Paris Marathon," Onchari said.

Evans Mayaka came in third with a time of29.27.80.

In the females' race, Winfridah Moseti won the duel after clocking 33.34.32, a few seconds before her close competitor Nancy Kerage who also crossed the line in 36.02.66.

Winner of the first edition that was held at Ensoko in Borabu Christine Oigo attained a time of 36.24.76 to claim the third position.

The event was witnessed by Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo and County staff who also lined up to participate in luxury races dubbed 'keep the doctor away run.

The road race started at Gekendo School and the finishing line was set at Esanige.

Speaking after the race Arita who is a professional athlete with the Kenya Defence Forces said the run was good even though the terrain was quite unfavourable.

The road track was good but mountain climbing was the biggest challenge because we did much of it than slopes.

Arita said his focus now has shifted to the KDF Cross Country that will be conducted in early November.
