Elders in Migori County have condemned chaos witnessed in Awendo and Suna East Sub-counties within two weeks.
Supporters of two political factions had clashed in both Awendo and Suna East where property was damaged and scores injured.
The elders from Sakwa expressed their disappointment saying that leaders should talk to their supporters to avert such incidents from happening in the future.
"We are unhappy with the political fracas and violence that was witnessed," Sylvester Owich, the chairman of the Sakwa elders’ forum said.
They asked leaders to try and bring calm and do peaceful campaigns.
The elders pointed out that they didn't want to see any violence and youths fighting in the county.
"We don't want to see our children killing each other," Mzee Owich remarked.
Michael Ogada, another elder, asked youths in the county to avoid being influenced into engaging in violence.
"Our youths must desist from being used to create fracas. We need a peaceful county," Mzee Ogada said.
The elders who have called for peace want leaders to be a uniting factor in the county.
On March 14 and March 15, violence was witnessed at Sangla Kagak primary school where supporters of Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita clashed.
Chaos erupted when Governor Ayacko's supporters blocked the MP's team from holding a function at the venue.
Awendo Sub-County Police Commander Mathias Pombo noted that two motorcycles were burnt during the fracas where supporters clashed.
"We are investigating the matter. No death was reported to us," Mr. Pombo said.
