The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has condemned the murder of Aisha Akinyi Abubakar who was the acting County elections Manager in Kilifi.
In a statement on Monday, the commission's Chief Executive Officer Marjan Hussein condemned the act, calling on security agencies to speed up investigations.
Abubakar was on Sunday night attacked and killed in a violent robbery at her home in Utange, Mombasa.
“ The Commission is deeply concerned by this horrendous incident and condemns the perpetrators behind Ms. Aisha's death.
As we condole with the family of Ms. Aisha, we call on the country's security agencies to speedily investigate this heinous occurrence and apprehend her killers,” stated Hussein.
On January 4, she was attacked alongside her son who sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment.
Mombasa County Police Commander Peter Kimani confirmed the incident yesterday that two men, one armed with a crowbar and the other with a knife, broke into Ms Abubakar’s house.
“They gained access into the deceased’s house through the kitchen. The son rushed to rescue the mother and was injured,” said Mr Kimani.
The police boss also revealed that some items were stolen from the house, as the motive behind the attack remains unknown.
IEBC has condoled with the family and friends for the tragic loss, terming her as a 'well-trained officer' who performed all her duties with utmost honesty, integrity, and dedication.
Aisha joined the Commission in 2012 as a Constituency Elections Coordinator for Nyali and subsequently rose through the ranks to become the Acting County Elections Manager before her demise.
