Doctors in Kajiado County have threatened to go on a strike if the county government will not address some of the issues that they are facing.
In a statement, the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) says doctors in the county are experiencing delayed promotions, unfair transfers, burn out, resource crunch among other issues.
"Frustration mounts due to promotions marred by nepotism, clanism, and favouritism. The system needs an overhaul! Shockingly, qualified doctors are being solicited for bribes for rightful redesignation. A blatant disregard for professionalism," said KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atella.
He added; "Doctors face erratic and punitive transfers without the promised compensation, violating HR norms. It's a breach of trust! Severe burnout looms as Kitengela, Kajiado, and Oloitoktok grapple with a critical shortage of doctors. The plea for reinforcements goes unanswered."
The doctors have vowed to go on a strike on December 7, 2023, if their demands will not have been met.
