President William Ruto has urged residents of Njiru, Kasarani Constituency to cooperate with the government or be evicted.
Speaking during the flagging-off of motor vehicles in Kasarani Thursday, October 26, Ruto said that the residents will be allowed to buy the land from the government failure to which they will be evicted.
"I am told that there are people who have built things around here in a land that isn't theirs. We are going to agree with them on the amount of money they will pay and if they fail, then we will evict them," said Ruto.
The president noted it was wrong for Kenyans to acquire land illegally.
The County and National government will facilitate the process of settlement in a way that Ruto says will be fair to the owners of the land and those occupying it.
He says the government will evaluate how much the residents need to pay for the land depending on the current market value.
The money collected will then be used to facilitate the building of a factory that will be producing devices for people with disability in Mavoko, Machakos County.
His remarks come a day after the residents in Njiru vowed not to vacate.
Led by Kasarani Member of Parliament Ronald Karauri, they said they will explore all possible means to remain on the land which court ruled belongs to the late Starehe MP Gerishon Kirima.
Karauri accused the government of being part of the problem and accused some officials of facilitating the acquisition of the parcels of land.
"We want to know how Kirima got the land. We have information it was acquired illegally," claimed the lawmaker yesterday during a meeting with the residents.
