Ruto hails bilateral ties between Kenya and China

President William Ruto has expressed his optimism on the possibility of further growing the mutual bilateral ties between Kenya and China.

Speaking during an investor's roundtable meeting in Beijing, China, Ruto stressed that the existing good ties have bettered successful engagements that revolve around the political, economic, and social spheres between Nairobi and Beijing.

"This year (2023) we are marking 6 decades of diplomatic relations with China, looking back on these activities and interactions during this period, we can all appreciate the significant progress and tremendous growth that has come about as a result of a truly transformational friendship between our nations and people," Ruto stated.

At the same time, Ruto praised Chinese companies that have over the years played a leading role in what he termed as the modernisation of Kenya adding that they have invested immensely in critical sectors including energy, construction, manufacturing, and telecommunications in Kenya.

"Whether you are talking about the SGR, LAPSSET, or other infrastructure investments, Chinese companies have played a leading role in Kenya's modernisation, connectivity, and regional integration efforts," he said.

The Head of State also roped in the loans given to Kenya by China stating that within a short time, China has risen rapidly and become Kenya's leading trading partner.

"So far, about 400 Chinese companies currently operating in Kenya have created more than 60,000 job opportunities," Ruto said.

The President also revealed that in the last year alone, Kenya's exports to China amounted to Sh3.4b, while China's exports to Kenya were valued at over Sh4.4 trillion.
