CS Kindiki makes another impromptu visit to Nyayo House

The Interior ministry has reiterated its commitment to clear the historical backlog in the processing of passports.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki who made yet another impromptu visit to Nyayo House, Nairobi expressed his optimism that the radical changes at the Immigration department will create efficiency and help resolve the backlog of passport issuance amidst public outcry.

"Sustaining the momentum for radical changes to create efficiency, eradicate corruption and clear the historical backlog in the processing of passports remains a primary and must-achieve target for the government," Kindiki posted on his official Twitter, now X, page.

The CS emphasised that the 10-day countdown to clear the passport backlog still stands adding that the department will continue operationalising the shifts from 7am to 7pm to facilitate optimal printing of the passports. So far, they are printing approximately 5,000 passports in a day.

During the Monday morning visit, Kindiki also held a consultative meeting with senior Immigration State Department officers, led by Principal Secretary, State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services Prof. Julius Bitok and Director General of Immigration and Citizen Services Evelyn Cheluget.

He later went round different departments and engaged various people who were at the Immigration offices seeking services.
