The Nairobi County government has made changes to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital management following a case of medical negligence.
In a statement to newsrooms on Monday, April 17, the hospital board appointed Dorcas Kemunto as Chairperson and Bernard Gituma as Board Secretary.
Christopher Githinji, Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Susan Wanjiru Kamau, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, Ronald Ngala Oniango and Fridah Wambui Nduati were appointed as members of the board.
"We are grateful to the previous board for the services they have rendered to the people of Nairobi for the time they have served," said Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, the Nairobi County Executive Committee Member.
Additionally, the Facility Incharge (Medical Superintendent) Dr. Bernard Gituma has taken over as the Medical Superintendent.
This is after Dr Emma Mutio, who was the Medical Superintendent was posted to Pumwani Hospital as a specialist.
"The process of recruitment of a substantive CEO for Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital as well as all our other level 5 facilities is ongoing and at an advanced stage. We shall continue to do all we can to give our people a City of order, Dignity, Hope and Opportunity," said Nyalita.
Mama Lucy Hospital came under heavy criticism on Monday after the video of an expectant woman almost delivering at the hospital's entrance went viral.
The Nairobi County has since issued a statement saying the 26-year-old woman, who lost her baby, experienced an IntraUterine Foetal Death.
