One pupil has been injured in a suspected Alshabab attack that had been allegedly targeted at a special forces camp in Fino town, Lafey Sub county at 5.30PM on October 26.
Abdiker Mohamed Rahoy, 13 was shot in the arm by a stray bullet that was thrown at the school situated near Lafey primary school.
He has been evacuated by local area leaders and is been treated at Mandera county referral hospital.
According to Abdimalik Ibrahim, Fino ward MCA more than three hand grenades were hurled at the camp and one of them had hit the school compound and left pupils run helter-skelter for their lives.
Abdimalik who had a meeting with the parents-teachers association during the attack said the attackers who were more than 20 were repulsed by the security forces after extreme exchange of gunshots.
A new nursing officer who has been deployed to Fino health center last week has been rescued safely and transported to Mandera town rendering the facility closed for the second time in this year.
In February this year, a clinical officer who was stationed at that health center was kidnapped and the facility closed for eight months.
During the attack, all the security officers were outside the camp because they were aware of the pending raid from Alshabab and thus no casualties reported on the special forces officers.
Lafey deputy commissioner, Juma Bakari Tabwara denied there was an attack in Fino but confirmed there could be stray gunshots from AS since the town is situated along the border with Somalia.
He referred us to his junior officers who were on the ground during the attack for more information.
