A woman was yesterday charged with abetting the killing of an eight-month-old foetus.

Esther Anyango Odundo appeared in a Mbita court to face charges of helping to terminate pregnancy of a Standard Seven girl.

The court heard that Odundo took the minor to Mbita Sub-county Hospital to procure drugs for terminating her pregnancy.

She allegedly committed the offense on February 5 in Mbita township, Mbita sub-county.

In the second count, she was charged with failure to protect a child from physical abuse.

She denied the charges and was released on Sh200,000 bond.

Mbita Senior Resident Magistrate Nicodemus Moseti ordered that the girl be protected at a children’s home in Homa Bay County for one year.

The case will be mentioned on Tuesday, next week.
