Sotik town now set for upgrading to municipality status

Sotik town in Bomet County is set to be elevated to a municipality.

Housing and Urban Principal Secretary Charles Mwaura said Sotik had met the threshold and would soon receive a charter to operate as a municipality.

“The elevation comes with many advantages and we should embrace it for the benefit of residents,” he said.

The PS was in Bomet to inspect projects funded by World Bank under the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP).

Mwaura noted that upon elevation, Sotik would enjoy the privilege of being allocated funds through the KUSP for facelift and development.

Bomet municipality has so far received more than Sh160 million for upgrading of roads, sewerage management and markets in the last three years from the program.

Accompanying the PS, Bomet Deputy Governor, Shadrack Rotich, said the funding had seen more than 10 kilometers of roads at Silibwet, Bomet and Chebirir tarmacked.

He said drainage systems in the town had been expanded and the market was undergoing renovation.
