Bura - Madogo Road has been cut off by floods at Bilbil, Tana River County after heavy rainfall on Tuesday night.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Kenya Red Cross said it is working with the County Government of Tana River to support affected families.
The Red Cross urged people to exercise caution ‘as the March-April-May long rains intensify across the country’.
“Following last night's long heavy rains in Tana River County the Bura- Madogo Road was cut off at Bilbil. Red Cross Action Teams conducted an assessment of the villages and are working with the County Government to support affected families,” tweeted Red Cross.
A message that echoed an April 5 warning by the Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) that most parts of the country will experience rains over the next week.
In a forecast of the weather patterns in the country between April 6 and April 12, MET added that regions in the Northwest and the Northeast are likely to experience strong south-easterly winds.
“Rainfall is expected over most parts of the country at the beginning of the forecast period. However, rainfall amounts and coverage are likely to reduce as the forecast period progresses. A few areas in the Northwest and the Northeast are likely to experience strong south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.9m/s),” said MET in a tweet.
In a forecast on Tana River and other counties in the coastal strip, MET warned that downpours are likely to occur over the period.
“Morning showers are likely to occur over several places on Tuesday and over a few places from Wednesday. Afternoon and evening showers are likely to occur over a few places through the forecast period,” MET added.
Speaking on April 1, Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna warned that rains may be slightly depressed in some areas and urged those living in disaster-prone areas to move to safer grounds.
