Two women accused of drugging a man and robbing him of valuables in Nyeri town have been charged in court.
Rita Achieng, 37, and Mercy Waithira Njeri, 33, also faced an alternative count of handling stolen property.
The two suspects who appeared before Nyeri Senior Principal Magistrate Macharia Muiruri denied committing the offences on April 2 in Kagumo village.
They were accused of administering Stilnox - a stupefying drug - to one Isaiah Kagume, with the intent to steal from him.
Achieng and Waithira faced a second-charge of stealing valuables including a laptop and mobile phone, all valued at Sh70,000.
The two, who were unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charges and asked the court to be released on a cash bail. Achieng explained that she was a nursing a newborn.
The prosecution led by Pauline Mwaniki, however, asked the court to release the accused on bond pending trial to allow police complete their probe.
“I urge the court to consider not releasing the suspects on cash bail based on the seriousness of the offence,” said Mwaniki.
They were released on a bond of Sh500,000 each. The matter will be mentioned on April 16.
