Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has joined other political leaders in mourning Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli who died last night.
Speaking during an interview with KTN News, Kalonzo sent his condolences to the family and Tanzania nationals at large, terming his demise as a huge loss not only to the country but to the larger East African Community.
The former Vice President also praised President Uhuru Kenyatta for declaring seven days of national mourning and the Kenyan and East African Community flags to be flown at half-mast.
Kalonzo also termed the late Magufuli who died aged 61 as a hands-on kind of leader who did not tolerate corruption.
“He would publicly call out corrupt leaders and those that showed laxity. I will personally remember him for being open to discussions whenever we called on him,” Kalonzo added.
At the same time, the Wiper leader admitted that Magufuli had his own shortcomings but he managed to hold Tanzanians together, especially during the just-concluded general election.
“I urge our neighbours especially the opposition leaders to stick together and above all, support Mama Samia Hassan Suluhu, the name actually means solution and I believe they will be ok. Follow what the Constitution says and adhere to it,” he concluded.
