The Director of Public Prosecution has approved attempted murder charges for the 17-year-old Kisii School student who stabbed two of his teachers on Tuesday morning.
The suspect appeared before Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate Stephen Onjoro and pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder.
Dressed in full school uniform, the form three student looked remorseful as he walked to the courts alongside other suspects.
His name was the first to be called out by the Court Clerk and he quickly walked into the dock.
His lawyer Ben Gichana requested the court to release his client on reasonable bond terms.
Not even the parents were in attendance. A close relative accompanied the advocate to court and after the proceedings, he escorted the suspect back to the court's holding cell.
The DPP, led by Counsel Hillary Kaino, did not object to the defense counsel's request to have the student released on bond.
The magistrate ordered for the release of the accused on a Sh 50,000 cash bail or an alternative of Sh 100,000 bond. He will be held at Manga Juvenile Center should he fail to raise the amount.
The accused will appear in court on January 27 for mention and pre-trial.
He spent Tuesday night at Kisii Police station. One of the teachers who was stabbed is still admitted at RAM Hospital, Kisii, while the other was discharged on Tuesday afternoon.
