Acting Nairobi Governor Benson Mutura has carried out his first cabinet reshuffle since assuming power following the exit of former Governor Mike Sonko.
The new changes have seen the re-appointment of Janet Ouko as the County Executive Officer for Education replacing Lucia Mulwa.
Mulwa, who had occupied the seat since the exit of Ouko, was shifted to the Agriculture Department.
Activist and former parliamentary aspirant Brian Weke has been appointed as the Legal Advisor to the Office of the Governor.
Elsewhere, Jairus Musumba has been appointed as the acting County Secretary while Paul Mutungi is now the Chief of Staff.
Mutura was sworn-in as Acting Nairobi Governor on December 21, 2020, and said that his first order of business would be to bring back on track the delivery of crucial services that have stalled-due to lack of funds occasioned by the failure of former Governor Sonko to assent to the Finance Bill.
Sonko was impeached by the county assembly over charges of abuse of office, a gross violation of the law, committing a crime under the national and international laws and lacking the capability to run the county.
Later the former governor sensationally, and without offering evidence, claimed that Senate Speaker Kenneth was arm-twisted to ensure that that the House upheld his impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly effectively sending him home.
On his Facebook page, the flamboyant politician says “there is life after politics”.
Further, he claimed Lusaka told him he was under “instructions from State to breach the law in presiding over my impeachment".
The former governor continued that some of his former colleagues in the Senate had to sacrifice him because of pressure from their party bosses.
