88-year-old man’s dream to meet Moi fulfilled

Ezekiel Kiplelmet’s patience finally paid off when Baringo Senator Gideon Moi landed at his home in Chesongo, Baringo County.

Kiplelmet, 88, had always dreamt of meeting Gideon. His dream was fulfilled yesterday when the senator’s chopper landed on a cleared section of his land some minutes past 3pm.

Gideon visited the old man after attending a church service at Full Gospel Church in Seretunin yesterday.

Kiplelmet spent some time with the senator, whom he described as a caring man he lived to see grow up politically. 

The old man said he had always hoped to see the senator land his chopper in his compound so that he may share the memories with his children.

For over 30 minutes yesterday, the two held talks in Kiplelmet’s house.

The former Kanu chairperson in Baringo could not hide his joy as he struggled to raise his hand and wave the one-finger salute - Kanu’s symbol.

When Gideon rose to leave, the old man was wheeled outside to see the senator take off in his chopper.

Immeasurable loyalty

Kiplelmet, who due to old age is mostly confined indoors, was wheeled outside by his grandchildren to where the senator was addressing locals.

He smiled as he listened to the senator and later thanked him for accepting to visit his home. 

Baringo Woman Representative Gladwell Cheruiyot and Kabarnet MCA Ernest Kibet accompanied Gideon to the home. 

In his address, Gideon said the old man has been loyal to the party he served first under President Daniel arap Moi.

“I just came here to see Mzee Kiplelmet. He stood with the party and remained loyal till he retired. He worked with Mzee Moi and with me,” Gideon said.

The Kanu chairman said the old man helped him a lot while still in office and would also advise him on party issues.

The loyalty Kiplelmet has, he said, was immeasurable. 

“I am happy to have seen the old man. I am at peace with myself having seen him and I thank the family for taking care of him,” Gideon said.

Gideon drummed up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

He urged the locals, especially the youth, to support the document saying they are the greatest beneficiaries.
