Rangwe NG-CDF purchases Sh33m buses for various schools

The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has bought school buses worth Sh33m to boost the implementation of competency-based curriculum (CBC) in Rangwe constituency.

Speaking in Rangwe on Thursday when she handed over the vehicles to the county security team at Rangwe Police Station, area MP Dr Lilian Gogo said the buses will help the schools participate actively in the competency-based curriculum.

Gogo who was accompanied by Homa Bay County Commissioner David Kipkemei said the buses will help schools undertake subjects such as geography, agriculture, sciences, music and others which require students to tour various places to acquire practical experience on how some learning activities are undertaken.

 “The CBC is based more on practical than theoretical learning. This buses will be used for ferrying students to various places to enable them to participate in practical learning activities,” said Gogo.

Dr Gogo said the vehicles have been bought using funds for the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 financial years in the NGCDF.

The vehicles will be kept at Rangwe Police Station to enhance their safety. They will be kept at the station until schools reopen.

The kitty has bought four buses in various wards in the constituency.

The schools include Rangwe Girls, Rabango Mixed, Nyajanja Mixed and Nyandiwa Mixed Secondary School.

She said they are going to buy three more buses for some secondary schools in Kagan ward.

The MP said the vehicles will also help solve logistical transport problems which have impeded learning activities in the area.

“We expect the schools to share the vehicles with their neighbours which have not received to facilitate learning activities,” Gogo added.

The MP said her office is committed to promoting education when schools reopen.

“We have now bought a total of six buses and we are expecting more. Let us just pray for the decline of coronavirus so that students can resume learning,” she said.

The MP challenged the schools' management to maintain the buses so that they can last longer.

Mr Kipkemei assured residents of the buses safety.

“The buses have been handed over to Rangwe OCS and if anything happens, he will be held responsible,” Kipkemei said.

Kipkemei without mentioning names accused some MPs of using the NGCDF as personal property.

“Some MPs utilise money from the NGCDF kitty as personal property. They should understand that this is a government fund,” said Kipkemei.

He asked leaders to be transparent when entrusted with public funds.

Mr Kipkemei also asked leaders to incorporate residents in public participation to enhance the viability of development projects undertaken in the county.
