Police investigate death of murdered businessman

Police in Mbita Sub County are investigating the death of a cattle trader who was hacked to death by unknown people.

John Ooko, 43, is reported to have been killed on Thursday night at Lwala village, Ngodhe Sub Location, under unclear circumstances.

Ooko’s body was found dumped in his maize plantation, a few meters from his home on Friday morning.

According to Ngodhe Sub-location subchief Charles Ngoe the body had visible injuries.

He sustained serious panga cuts to the head, chin and other parts of the body.

“The body had several panga cuts which means someone cut him with a machete. We suspect the injuries might have culminated in his death,” Ngoe said.

He said the deceased was last seen the previous evening near his home before his body was discovered.

Ngoe suspected that the deceased was murdered by people who intended to rob him.

“Residents found his pockets frisked, meaning the killers might have been after his money,” said the administrator.

Mbita Sub-County police commander Charles Mwangi confirmed the incident.

“We have launched an investigation into the matter to ensure the killers are brought to book,” said Mwangi.

The body was taken to MED 25 Kirindo mortuary for postmortem.

Early this week, a 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly being involved in the death of a 41-year-old man at a chang’aa den in the same sub-county.

Felix Okeyo was killed at Mirunda village, Kayanja sub-location.

The duo reportedly disagreed when they were drinking alcohol.

The suspect was detained at Mbita Police Station.
