A Homa Bay MCA is expected to appear in court on Monday after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his colleagues.

Kendu Bay Town MCA Maurice Ogwang’ is alleged to have hired goons to assault his two colleagues Juma Awuor (Homa Bay Town East) and Julius Nyambok (Homa Bay Town Central) at River Ondhedhe in Karachuonyo on May 7.

Homa Bay police boss Esther Seroney confirmed that Ogwang’ was arrested following a directive from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

“We took his file to the DPP that recommended that he be arrested. He will be charged on Monday,” said Seroney.

The incident reportedly occurred when Awuor, Nyambok and their South Kasipul counterpart Geoffrey Opiyo went to visit their nominated colleague Amina Ismael at her home.

Attacked and robbed

According to Awuor the assailants blocked them on a bridge on the river and assaulted them before pushing them into the river.

Awuor said he was robbed of Sh75,000 and his mobile phone worth  Sh120,000 destroyed during the attack.

The windowpanes of his V 8 vehicle were also broken.

“I suffered injuries and huge financial losses due to the attack. I am praying that the State can accord me justice,” said Awuor.

On the hand, Nyambok said the assailants robbed him of Sh180,000  besides being assaulted.

“What happened was unlawful. We did not want to retaliate because we are law-abiding citizens,” Nyambok said.

The attack occurred when Awuor, Nyambok and Opiyo were mobilising their colleagues for a change in the county assembly majority leader post.

They recorded statements at Kendu Bay Police Station before the matter was transferred to Homa Bay Police Station.

But when contacted on Saturday, the MCA denied that he had been arrested and warned the media against reporting anything about him.

"Do not write anything about me. I am not aware of any arrest," said Ogwang'.
