Former Kimorori Primary School at Kenol township in Murang’a County will host the Maragua sub-county headquarters after completion of upgrade works in the next two months.

The project that involves transfer of sub-county police headquarters, the establishment of Kenol police station and law courts, will be completed in August. It is mainly funded by the Maragua Constituency Development Fund and other key stakeholders.

Plans to transfer security offices and establishment of a law court was initiated after Maragua district headquarters was moved in a controversial manner from Mareira Farmers Training Centre in Kigumo to Makuyu 20 years ago.

In 2003, some of the offices were relocated to Kenol from Makuyu divisional headquarters following construction of district headquarters on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway.

But the residents have been travelling long distances to seek security services at Makuyu market in Kenol where crime rates continue to rise.

Murang’a South Deputy County Commissioner Mawira Mungania said the relocation has been facilitated by Maragua CDF and other stakeholders.

There will be a mobile court within the compound. The Judiciary is expected to fund the construction of a permanent block within the same compound.
