Athletes should take advantage of webinars

The first season of the National Olympic Committee-Kenya (NOC-K) webinar series were concluded on Thursday evening.

Olympic champion and world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and Malkia Strikers setter Janet Wanja concluded the sessions with pieces of advice to fellow athletes, especially the younger ones.

Kipchoge revealed his secret to success and why self-discipline is one of the most important virtues for any athlete. Wanja concentrated more on the spirit of not giving up even when many are of the opinion that you can no longer give your best due to age.

Other top athletes including those who have retired like John Ngugi gave their insights on life lessons and how some like him did not plan well for retirement. While we encourage NOC-K to invite more athletes in their next sessions, we hope those who took part picked poignant lessons.

If athletes, especially the young ones, take heed of what their seniors say, they will avoid the pitfalls in their sporting careers.

Athletes getting involved in activities that destroy their careers at an early age will be a thing of the past if they follow the advice from the NOC-K sessions.

We urge those who cared to listen to strive and put that into practice and for those who did not, to look forward to the next sessions. The sessions should also offer sport authorities a platform to listen to sportsmen and women. The athletes will, for instance, learn how to avoid the doping trap or temptation.
