Samburu man on the run after killing mother over land

A man has killed his mother at Lokuto village in Samburu County after they disagreed over land. 

Edwin Losepesh beat up his 82 -year-old mother after she opposed his plan to sell a family’s land.

According to a grandson to the deceased, the suspect engaged the deceased in a quarrel at about 5 am and caused a commotion in their house before killing her.

“We were in a separate house where we heard the suspect quarrelling grandmother as jerricans fell down all neighbours heard the noise but nobody believed he could kill grandmother,” he said.

According to the relatives, the deceased succumbed to internal bleeding as her other son was making arrangements to rush her to the hospital for treatment.

Nyumba Kumi chairman in the area Sasan Lenakinong’iro said the suspect might have been under influence of alcohol when he attacked his mother.

Lenakinong’iro said the suspect fled away after committing the murder.

“We are asking the government to take immediate action and ensure that he is arrested and charged in court.” He said.

Police officers led by Officer Commanding Police station (OCS) from Maralal town arrived at the scene, collected the body and transferred it to Samburu County referral hospital in Maralal town for postmortem.

The police officers have launched investigations into the incident.
