Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has expressed displeasure at
how Jubilee Party is running its affairs, saying if it continues in that
direction then the future is bleak.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on
Tuesday evening, Cherargei, who chaired the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee
(JLAC) but has been moved to the Powers and Privileges Committee, however reiterated
that leaving the party was not an option.
“The future of Jubilee, in my opinion, is when we weed out
political witch-hunting and conmanship within the party.
“If we run Jubilee like a kiosk, I am afraid the future will
be very bleak,” he said.
Adding: “Jubilee is our party. How can we leave when we want
to fix our party? Leaving Jubilee is not an option.”
Asked about his thoughts after being moved from the JLAC,
Cherargei said it is a blessing in disguise as he can now focus on the affairs
of is county.
He called for fairness in the party, accusing the leadership
of selective application of punishment.
“I do not mind being removed from JLAC. I will now be able
to concentrate on affairs of my county…If you want to promote party discipline,
start with those who campaigned against the Jubilee candidate in Kibra...
“I reject in totality being made a member of the Powers and
Privileges committee. I am not interested…These are things being done to us by
those who find it convenient,” he remarked.
Jubilee Senators allied to Deputy President William Ruto
were removed as chairpersons of Senate committees as the purge on the
party's rebel legislators continues.
Other senators who were kicked out include John Kinyua
(Laikipia), Mithika Linturi (Meru) and Senator Christopher Lang'at (Bomet).
In the new changes, Sen. Christopher Lang'at was
replaced by Nairobi's Johnson Sakaja at the Senate Business Committee.
Lang’at also lost his position as the Education Committee
chairman to Sen. Alice Milgo.
