Kenyans have been told to prepare for heavy rains in various parts of the country beginning March 25.
In a statement released on March 24, the Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) warned that the rainfall that has been pounding western parts of the country will be experienced in central parts of the country and Nairobi.
According to the statement, the rains will intensify on Thursday in Central and on Friday in Northern Eastern regions before reducing in intensity on Saturday.
“The intensity is expected to increase to more than 20mm on Thursday in Western, Central including Nairobi area, South- Eastern as well as North-Eastern regions.”
Some of the areas that will be affected include Siaya, Kakamega, Homa Bay, Bomet, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Kericho, Nakuru, Kajiado, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nyandarua,Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Vihiga, Busia, Kisumu, Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Bungoma, Laikipia, Murang'a, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir Isiolo and Garissa
MET also cautioned motorists and residents from the would-be affected areas to be on the lookout for flooding beginning Thursday March 25.
"People are advised to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees or near grilled windows to minimise exposure to lightning strikes," added the statement.
