Several politicians in Laikipia County have thrown their weight behind Gideon Moi's bid to run for the presidency in 2022.
Speaking in Nyahururu town yesterday, the leaders, among them Maina Njenga and former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel, said Gideon was not tainted unlike other politicians.
They said they would rally local youth to support him.
“We need a person who can unite the country as well as one who is not tainted by corruption," said Mr Njenga, former Mungiki leader.
"That is why we have focused on Gideon. He is well-placed to do the job.”
He called on the youth to support Gideon, saying he was one politician who cared about the plight of young people.
“Let us support one of our own who understands the issues affecting us," Njenga said. "We will hold rallies that will raise issues affecting the youth."
Mr Lempurkel called on Kenyans to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) since it will solve the issues affecting them.
He cited the question of peace in Laikipia which he said has been elusive.
Lempurkel blamed the situation on land disputes and clashes over pasture.
“BBI will solve these problems. Land matters between herders and farmers will be addressed," Lempurkel said.
"That is why we as herders in Laikipia are fully behind the document."
The leaders spoke barely two days after Gideon met elders from Mt Kenya region, where he expressed his support for BBI.
