Kisii County building modern hospital in Marani Sub-county

Kisii County Government is building ultra-modern inpatient and outpatient hospital at Marani Sub-county. The facility is jointly funded with the World Bank under the Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP).

Speaking when he toured the facility yesterday, Governor James Ongwae (pictured) said his administration is keen on decongesting the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital by modernising all Sub-county hospitals.

Ongwae said a similar facility is currently under construction at Nduru in South Mugirango Sub-county, with both facilities set to open their doors to patients before the end of the year.

“Together with the World Bank we are working to ensure we have modern medical facilities at Marani and Nduru so as to ensure patients from Kitutu Chache North and South Mugirango constituencies get services closer to them,” said Ongwae.

The county chief said the separate 100-bed capacity facilities will each have an inpatient block for male, female and paediatric wards. He said each will also have an outpatient block that will house a laboratory, a dental unit, a pharmacy and X-ray departments.

Ongwae said they will be deploying more medical doctors, clinical officers, nurses, radiologists and other medical staff to the new facilities in order to ensure members of the public do not have to travel far for specialised services.

The governor said they are also putting up a mortuary at the Marani hospital, which can handle 20 bodies.
