An undated video has gone viral on social media showing an Asian man and woman nearly being assaulted in Kibra slums, Nairobi, by a stranger in a reflector jacket questioning them whether they had the dreaded coronavirus.
In the 30 seconds video, the man is heard asking the two if “they are Corona” (sic) as the gathered crowd bursts into laughter, seemingly encouraging him to continue interrogating them.
“You are Corona?” the man says.
The Asian man could be seen trying to explain that they both are not affected with the virus.
“We do not have the coronavirus. We know,” the man could be heard shouting.
The video has emerged few days after the Chinese Embassy in Kenya urged Kenyans to stop using racist’s remarks against Chinese nationals in reference to the deadly Coronavirus.
The embassy further besought Kenyans to be more rational when expressing sentiments about Chinese citizens in the country.
The statement from the Embassy came after tension engrossed residents of Athi River after a Chinese national was seen wearing a mask in one of the estates.
Nairobi County Woman Representative Esther Passaris has asked Kenyans not to engage in racism.
“We cannot be part of racism; we have to be sensitive as human beings” she said?
Globally, the virus has killed more than 3,100 people and infected over 90,000, but it’s not in Kenya so far.
