Kenyan-born Aliphine Tuliamuk booked her place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after an impressive victory at the United States of America Olympic Team Trials Marathon in Atlanta on Saturday, February 29.
The goal was simple, cross the finish line in the podium positions and a spot in the Olympic Games was yours.
Tuliamuk put on a show till the 25th mile when she out-paced Molly Siedel to cross the finish line in 2:27:23, seven seconds ahead of the debutant.
"It was amazing. When we broke away, I kept saying 'Molly, let's go'. I knew it wouldn't happen by itself," said an elated Tuliamuk.
Another Kenyan native Sally Kipyego took third place in 2:28:52.
Tuliamuk and Kipyego became US citizens in 2016 and 2019 respectively.
