The bodies of the 14 pupils of Kakamega Primary School who died on Monday following a stampede have arrived at Bukhungu Stadium for a funeral mass.
The requiem will be conducted by different denominations drawn from the Kakamega pastor's fellowship.
ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula and nominated senator Naomi Musuruve are among the leaders in attendance.
Governor Wycliffe Oparanya together with other eight governors attended.
Security has been beefed up at the stadium with thousands of mourners in attendance.
First Aid is also being provided by Red Cross, St John's Ambulance and doctors from Amref.
Kakamega Primary School will remain closed for a week to pave way for investigations into the stampede that killed 14 pupils.
The present officials include Education PS Belio Kipsang and governors Mwangi Wairia (Murang'a), Stephen Sang (Nandi), Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma) and Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri).
The largest school in the county had pupils from outside Kakamega, Governor Oparanya said.
It posted impressible results in KCPE, with a mean score of 322 for five years.

The total school population is 3,128, plus ECD's 296. It has 76 teachers.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced this after touring the school.
He promised to make public the outcome of the investigations by Monday.
He said the pupils deserve a one week break to come to terms with losing their colleagues and urged residents not to interfere with the normal operations of the school when it reopens.
