Former Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton will pay a Marsabit MCA Sh600,000 for defaming her, a court has ruled.

Lekuton (pictured) was found guilty of defaming Zam Zam Hussein Arigele, a Nominated MCA by calling her a “prostitute” in public five years ago.

The second term nominated ward representative had sought Sh8 million.

MCA denies coning woman

Elsewhere in Kakamega, an MCA was yesterday charged in a Bungoma court for unlawfully obtaining money by false pretense.

David Barasa and his co-accused Brian Lihanga denied coning a Nairobi businesswoman, Harriet Abula, of Sh206,000.

“The accused took the money with the promise of instituting an impeachment motion against West Nalondo MCA Erick Wapang’ana, who is said to have also defrauded the complainant,” reads the charge sheet.

The suspects are said to have received the cash via M-Pesa between January 6-9, 2020.
