Man shot dead, 26 goats stolen in Baragoi

A man was shot dead and his twenty goats stolen by suspected cattle rustlers in Baragoi, Samburu North Sub County.

Samburu County commissioner John Korir has confirmed the incident saying that police officers responded on time and recovered the stolen livestock after arresting a suspect who was armed with an illegal gun.

He said the suspect would soon be arraigned before court once police are through with investigations.

However, police have also managed to recover 26 cattle that had been stolen in Ngaremara village in Samburu East Sub County today morning.

Mr Korir said police have beefed up security in areas that are prone to cattle rustling in Samburu North and Samburu East sub counties.

He called upon people from different communities to coexist peacefully with their neighbors and maintain mutual respect, understanding in order to avoid conflicts in future.

“We are calling upon our people to live with their neighbors in peace, if it is pasture resources there is no problem if elders from a certain community would visit those from a neighbouring community and ask for permission to graze livestock in their area,” he said.

The county commissioner said police officers have arrested a total of four suspects believed to have participated in different cattle raid in the county for the past two weeks.

“We are still pursuing some suspects, goats were also stolen two weeks ago and we have been following up. As we speak, we have recovered 80 goats and four people have been arrested in connection with cattle rustling incidences two weeks ago,” he said.
