Police in Rarieda sub-county have arrested a man accused of bullying a 19-year-old woman online.
The suspect who has been identified as Joseph Maina was arrested on Saturday after he booked a hotel room in Ndori trading centre where he was to meet the woman.
Confirming the incident, area Police boss Thomas Ototo said that the 25-year-old suspect was arrested after he was tricked by the victim.
He is being held at Aram Police station and will be arraigned in court once they are through with the investigations.
He said that the suspect lured the victim, Wendy Atieno, to send him nude photos of her before he threatened to upload them on social media.
“He demanded Sh15, 000 from the girl, failure to which he told her to have sex with him,” said Ototo.
In a 24-page WhatsApp chat seen by The Standard, the victim fell into the suspect’s trap after he promised to sponsor her education.
While narrating her ordeal, Atieno said that when they first met on Facebook, the victim introduced himself as a woman who lived in the UK and promised to sponsor her education.
She, however, became scared when he (the suspect) later introduced himself as a Kenyan man and convinced her to send him nude photos of herself and videos so that he could send Sh100, 000.
"It should be erotic my dear and that should be 2minutes. For that, I'll pay Sh130, 000 and it should be me and you in this," read part of the WhatsApp chats.
Although she pleaded with Maina not to upload the photos online, he continued threatening her.
According to Atieno, she tricked the suspect to travel to Ndori where they were to meet. Instead, she alerted the police who came and arrested him.
"I had not shared this information with anyone and it reached a point that I was contemplating of committing suicide than see my photos go viral," she said.
Police have already launched investigations into the matter, adding that the suspect was found with sex-enhancing drugs.
