DCI summons 11 more over Itare dam scandal

Former directors of the Rift Valley Water Service Board (RWSB) are among individuals summoned by anti-graft detectives for questioning today over the stalled Sh30 billion Itare Dam projects.

Those summoned by Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti are Narok politician Lydia Maskonde, Christine Ndoigo, Chesaina Bartonjo, Julius Lamaoni, Nemuel Machuki, Ewoi Lochom, Samuel Kaaleng, Engineer Kyengo, Barack Amolo and Yatich David.

They are expected to present themselves before detectives at DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road today.

According to a letter from the DCI to the Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency chief executive office dated December 9, the purpose of the summons is for the individuals to record statements in relation to alleged misappropriation of public funds. “Further to our previous correspondence CID/IB/SEC/4/4/2/VOL. 1/71 dated December 4, 2019 on the above subject matter, we would like to summon the under listed persons for an interview and statement recording on December 16, 2019,” read the letter.

The letter indicated that they should report without fail.

The summons comes a week after Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui was questioned by the detectives.

The dam has had an array of challenges ranging from compensation, flawed procurement processes and numerous court cases.

The over Sh30 billion dam meant to supply water to more than 800,000 residents of Molo, Njoro, Rongai, Kuresoi and Nakuru Town has since stalled.

No work is going on at the dam site.
