The perfect holiday might mean something different to everyone but if you are on the hunt for magic, then look no further. The Kajiado tourism circuit is much more than Amboseli and our list proves it.

Campi ya Kanzi

Situated at the foot of the legendary Chyulu Hills, this luxury safari camp offers an incomparable combination of five star luxury – rustic comfort, first-class wilderness adventure, amazing wildlife, and authentic immersion in Maasai culture.

Built-in partnership with the Maasai community of the 283,000-acre Kuku Group Ranch, it is limited to 16 guests at a time, to ensure that you always feel like you are exploring the wilderness exclusively. The Chyulu Hills on Kuku Group Ranch was formed by volcanic activity; some of the lava outflow age less than 200 years.

These volcanic summits are covered in a rich green cloud forest, home to a completely different array of trees, flowers, insects, birds and mammals. Habitats range from the grasslands of the savannah to green river woodlands and cool mountain forests.

As a natural corridor for wildlife between Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks, this land is to be protected. According to 30 years records by Dr David Western, former KWS director, up to 90 per cent of the population of some herbivores of Amboseli National Park, need this land for some part of the year, in order to survive. It supports amazing wildlife, with immense biodiversity, including zebra, giraffe, antelopes and apex predators like lions and leopards for game viewing.

Satao Elerai Camp

Satao Elerai Camp is located in a quiet, unspoilt, unique setting on a 5, 000-acre private conservation area 12 kilometres southeast of Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro.

The camp looks down onto the Amboseli National Park in one direction and up to Mt Kilimanjaro in the other direction, giving clients what is arguably the best location of any camp in Amboseli.

The camp currently has 12 luxury en suite mountain facing tents and 5 large luxurious lodge style suites. Both the tents and the suites are en suite with the suites also having luxurious baths. Besides the exclusiveness of the conservancy, the rooms at Satao Elerai Camp were built and designed to ensure that your stay will be in complete luxury. Huge beds with top quality mattresses and pillows and a large luxurious duvet ensure that you will sleep through the night in total comfort. Large sliding doors open out onto your own private verandah overlooking the plains.

Lentorre

Located a short distance from Lake Magadi in the heart of the Olkiramatian Conservancy is this stunning lodge built on a spur overlooking a vast untouched wilderness with thriving umbrella thorn trees and the colourful toothbrush trees.

Fed by crystal-clear springs running off the South Loita and Nguruman escarpments, Lentorre opens up to warm breeze with uninhibited views of Mt Shompole, Ol Donyo Gelai and the active volcano Ol Donyo Lengai.

Comprising of four large villas that hold either a double or twin bed configuration, a family villa and a honeymoon villa, the lodge has a maximum capacity of just 16 guests. Each villa has its own dedicated plunge pool, incredible power shower and some have luxurious bathtubs.

Porini Amboseli Camp

This award-winning Kenya safari camp is set within the exclusive Selenkay Conservancy - an important wildlife dispersal area for wildlife moving out of Amboseli National Park. The private conservation area ensures the best possible game viewing in proper off-road safari vehicles, off the beaten track and away from other tourist vans and minibuses.

Porini Amboseli Safari Camp is a small, exclusive yet friendly experience with a maximum of 20 guests at a time. It is also fully inclusive of all meals, drinks, and activities (including day and night shared game drives, guided walks and sundowners).

Ol Donyo Safari Lodge

Set on the 275, 000 acres Mbirikani Group Ranch bordering Chyulu Hills National Park, Ol Donyo Lodge offers ten magnificent, spacious and unique suites. No two suites look the same and a lot of attention to detail has been dedicated to the layout of these beautiful suites.

Eight suites have their own private swimming pools, while all the beds offer guests an experience of falling asleep under starry skies on beds set on your private terrace. Fully inclusive of accommodation, a wide range of activities, meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (excluding imported and premium drinks). Park fees & flights from Nairobi and other areas are also included.

Tandala House and Little Tandala

If you are on the lookout for a private self-catering option with a difference, then look no further than this two beautiful homes situated within 320 acres of private bush on the slopes of the Maparasha hills overlooking a waterhole and offering sweeping views across plains to the Pele?wa Hills.

Exposed timber beams, shining dark wooden floors, log fires, shady verandahs, Thunbergia covered walkways, and lily covered ponds create an oasis of calm luxury. This stunning opt can comfortably sleep ten guests (eight adults and two children).

While they have self-catering options, guests can also request a chef to prepare meals for them. There is a chef, housekeeper, houseboy, garden/maintenance/pool attendant to make the guests stay comfortable. Guests can enjoy swimming and relaxing beauty treatments.

Some of the unique top activities to indulge your senses include:

Astronomy

Because the area has little to no light pollution, stargazing is very highly rated in Kajiado. During the full moon, there is definitely no need for a light to be on in camp! For those who are interested, Lentorre can organise a professional telescope and an astronomer to be in camp and to set up in the evenings in camp or out in the bush, and give talks about the sky above.

Fly camping

Given the number of areas to see and the fact that you are in an area exclusively, the option to fly camp out in the bush is there for guests.

Chopper rides

Using choppers to explore Kajiado is a fantastic way to spend a day, with scenic flights over the Chyulus, Loita hills and waterfalls, Lake Natron with a champagne sundowner.

Horseback riding

Replacing the grumble of a car engine with the sound of hooves. Note, however, that horseback riding is reserved only to experienced riders, because of wildlife.
